Point B Dance Carnival

7 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Lawrence Arts Center, 940 New Hampshire St.

The local dance company’s eighth annual spring show is dubbed “Endangered,” and promises to “take the audience on a journey exploring different human qualities that are under duress — integrity, innocence, modesty and self.”

Snag a seat at www.lawrenceartscenter.org, at the door on the night of the show, or directly from a Point B dancer. Tickets cost $10 if purchased from a company member, or $10 plus fees at the door or online.

Monarch Watch Spring Open House and Plant Fundraiser

8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Monarch Watch, 2021 Constant Ave.

If you have a butterfly garden or are considering starting one up, the Monarch Watch’s annual fundraiser is the place to be this weekend. Why? Because it’ll be loaded with 5,000-plus butterfly-friendly plants (both annuals and perennials, natch) for your shopping perusal.

Also among the attractions: children’s activities (including the chance to see the queen bee lay eggs in Monarch Watch’s honeybee observation hive), tours of the garden and lab space, live demonstrations, refreshments and monarch butterflies, of course.

Lawrence Potters’ Guild Spring Sale

10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Carnegie Building, 200 W. Ninth St.

In need of a last-minute gift for Mom? The Lawrence Potters’ Guild has you covered.

Shop everything from handmade mugs, bowls and casserole dishes to planters, garden decor and “wearable art” at the guild’s annual springtime sale, held this year on the lawn of the Carnegie Building.

Pick up something for yourself too, because you’re worth it.

Kansas Food Truck Festival

4 to 10 p.m. Saturday, Warehouse Arts District, between Eighth and Ninth streets to the north and south and Delaware to Pennsylvania streets to the east and west

This Just Food fundraiser will host more than just food (get it?) in East Lawrence’s Warehouse Arts District come Saturday. In addition to the 26 food trucks (vendors include Torched Goodness, the Purple Carrot, Drasko’s and Fine Thyme Food, among others) lining Pennsylvania Street, visitors can also treat themselves to face painting, bouncy houses, and live entertainment courtesy of the Lawrence Busker Festival and local musicians.

Just Food is also partnering with the local artists of Craft Collective for a multi-vendor art sale inside the Cider Gallery, 810 Pennsylvania St., during the festivities.

Lawrence Community Orchestra presents “Russian Masters”

7:30 p.m. Saturday, Lawrence Free State High School, 4700 Overland Drive

This weekend’s Lawrence Community Orchestra concert pays tribute to classical music’s Russian masters, notably Tchaikovsky, who would have celebrated his 176th birthday Saturday. Also joining the orchestra on stage is renowned pianist and Kansas University associate professor of piano Steven Spooner.

Tickets cost $15 for adults or $10 for students, and can be purchased at www.lawrenceorchestra.org.
