For mothers of infants, tasks as simple as going to the grocery store can be complicated, time-consuming and exhausting. That’s one reason the Hy-Vee on Clinton Parkway is opening a Mother’s Room.

The room’s primary purpose is for nursing mothers, equipped with a gliding rocker and changing station, but there is also a play area for other small children.

The store will host a ribbon cutting for the room, near the family restroom and pharmacy, at 10 a.m. Friday at Hy-Vee, 3504 Clinton Parkway. Light refreshments will be served between 10 and 11 a.m. Representatives from Lawrence Memorial Hospital, the Lawrence-Douglas County Health Department, LiveWell Lawrence and Mother’s Milk of Kansas are expected to attend.
