Extreme heat warning issued for Lawrence area; heat index of 115 possible
The National Weather Service has issued an extreme heat warning from now until 7 p.m. Sunday for the Lawrence area.
Daytime heat index readings are expected to range from 105 to 115 degrees during that period. Overnight lows are expected to be in the upper 70s to lower 80s, offering little relief.
The weather service warns that such extreme heat and humidity can lead to heat-related illnesses. Staying indoors and keeping hydrated are advised.
