KU dominates ITA tournament

It will be an all-Kansas University final in both women’s singles and doubles at the ITA Summer Circuit today at Jayhawk Tennis Center.

Sophomore Nina Khmelnitckaia will face sophomore Janet Koch in the singles final. Khmelnitckaia defeated KU teammate, junior Summer Collins, 7-6, 6-2, in the quarterfinals before ousting Jayhawk senior Tess Bernard-Feigenbaum, 6-3, 6-4, in the semifinals.

Koch advanced after a win over KU sophomore Anastasiya Rychagova in the quarterfinals. Rychagova was forced to withdraw due to injury. Koch then defeated Cassidy Spearman, 6-3, 6-4. Khmelnitckaia and Koch will meet in the finals at 8 a.m. today.

After playing in the singles title match, Khmelnitckaia and Koch play together for the doubles championship match. The duo defeated Alexis Czapinski and Logan Morrissey in the semifinals, 8-3. They will take on KU teammates Bernard-Feigenbaum and Rychagova, who advanced after defeating KU’s Collins and freshman Tatiana Nikolaeva, 8-5.

The doubles final is set for 10:30 a.m. today.
