KU track stellar at Classic

Kansas University track and field claimed 16 event victories at its final home meet of the indoor season, the Jayhawk Classic, which concluded Friday at Anschutz Pavilion.

KU sophomore Sharon Lokedi turned in an NCAA top-10 performance as well as a facility record in the 3,000 meters, while junior Strymar Livingston claimed the fastest 600-yard time in the nation this season.

“It was a really solid effort from the entire team today,” KU coach Stanley Redwine said. “Sharon was obviously outstanding with a facility record, and Strymar also had a really solid race in the 600 yards. We’re excited about were the teams are at right now and hopefully the performances will only get better from here.”

Lokedi won the 3,000 in 9:29.24, and Livingston took third — behind two former collegiate runners — in the 600 in 1:09.56.

Other KU winners were: Zainab Sanni, 60 meters, 7.40 seconds, and 200, 24.66; Daria Cook, 60 hurdles, 8.51; Nicole Montgomery, 400, 56.06; Whitney Adams, 600, 1:22; Lydia Saggau, 1,000, 2:53.84; Kelly McKee, triple jump, 39-feet, 1-inch; Anastasiya Muchkayev, shot put, 49-1; Daina Levy, weight throw, 68-10 3/4; both the women’s 4X400-meter relay (3:48.26) and distance medley (12:22.26) relays; Drew Matthews, 400, 49.02; Anthonio Humphrey, 1,000, 2:27.02; Curtis Ray, long jump, 24-0 3/4; and Nicolai Ceban, shot put, 61-8 1/4.
