Underage Lawrence man accused of drinking leads police on short foot chase

A 20-year-old Lawrence man is accused of leading police officers on a short foot chase early Thursday morning, police said.

Around 12:20 a.m. officers entered the Jayhawk Cafe, 1340 Ohio St., for a bar check, said Lawrence Police Sgt. Trent McKinley. There they approached Alan Azeltine, who was allegedly drinking in the bar at the time.

Azeltine gave officers a fake ID, McKinley said. He was then escorted out of the bar.

Once outside, Azeltine ran from officers, heading east on 14th Street, north on Tennessee Street and into a home, McKinley said. Officers were able to follow him and place him under arrest.

Azeltine was booked into the Douglas County Jail on suspicion of being a minor in possession, unlawful use of a driver’s license and interference with the duties of a police officer. He is being held in jail in lieu of a $300 bond.
