Overnight snow leaves Lawrence area streets slick

Lawrence and Douglas County residents woke to a small amount of snow and bitter cold temperatures after a winter storm blew through northeast Kansas early Sunday morning.

City, Douglas County and Kansas Department of Transportation crews were treating some roads. However, side streets in the city may be snow covered and drivers should be alert for isolated slick spots.

The National Weather Service forecasts a mostly clear day in the Lawrence area with the high only in the low teens. Sustained winds of 10 to 15 mph are predicted with gusts of up to 30 mph this morning, driving wind-chill readings down to minus-2 to -12 degrees.
