Concerned for person’s safety, police force their way into West 25th Street home

Concerned for the safety of a resident, police forced their way into a West 25th Street home on Tuesday afternoon.

At 2:03 p.m. officers received a call from a man concerned about a woman inside a house on West 25th Street, said Lawrence Police Sgt. Trent McKinley. Many details of the report were unclear, but McKinley said initial information included the possibility a knife was involved.

When police arrived on scene those inside the home refused to answer the door, McKinley said. Officers then broke through a glass portion of one door and forced at least one more open.

“We entered the house with the belief that if we did not someone may have been harmed,” McKinley said.

Once inside officers spoke with the occupants, McKinley said.

No injuries were reported in the incident.

Several people involved in the incident were taken to the Lawrence Police Department’s Investigations and Training Center, 4820 Bob Billings Parkway, to be interviewed, McKinley said. No one was arrested at the scene.

“As of right now we do not know whether a crime has occurred,” he said.

McKinley said it was not immediately clear whether weapons, drugs or alcohol were involved in the incident.

Further details were not available Tuesday afternoon.
