Prairie Village ? Lawrence High senior Elliott Abromeit finished seventh in singles at the Sunflower League meet on Thursday, helping the Lions tie for eighth place in the team standings at Harmon Park.

Abromeit received a first-round bye and beat Olathe North’s David Lietjauw to advance to the quarterfinals. He won 9-4 in the seventh place match against Olathe East’s Carson Fitzgerald.

“For him to be able to take seventh was great,” LHS coach Chris Marshall said of Abromeit. “We lost a match that might hurt us down the road but … I’m pretty pleased.”

Free State finished 10th in the team standings, led by Tucker Nickel and Jonah Pester, who combined to finish 10th in doubles. Nickel and Pester won four matches to advance through the backside of the bracket, losing 9-5 in the ninth-place match.

Shawnee Mission East won the league’s team title and Jack Santilli won in singles. SM Northwest’s Tyler Garland and Reagan Walsh won the doubles title.
