Lawrence sees more than 2 inches of rain from Tuesday night storms

More than 2 inches of rain fell on the Lawrence area between Tuesday night and early Wednesday morning.

Lawrence saw about 2.19 inches of rain between approximately 8 p.m. Tuesday and 4 a.m. Wednesday, according to measurements observed at Lawrence Municipal Airport.

Chances of precipitation will continue the rest of the week.

At 4:26 a.m. Wednesday, the National Weather Service issued a flood warning for southwestern Douglas County. The warning was extended once and is set to expire at 12:30 p.m.

A mid-morning update from the weather service said although many smaller creeks and streams have crested, there is still danger until the flood waters recede.

According to the weather service, Wednesday is expected to be mostly cloudy, with a 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms stretching into the evening.

Thursday is expected to be mostly sunny, the weather service reports. Friday’s forecast includes a 30 percent chance of showers, which increases to a 70 percent chance in the evening.
