Tornado watch issued for Douglas, Jefferson counties

The National Weather Service in Topeka has issued a tornado watch for Douglas and Jefferson counties in Kansas, effective until 11 p.m. Sunday.

The watch follows an announcement of a hazardous weather outlook for much of central to northeastern Kansas.

According to the NWS, thunderstorms will impact much of the area throughout the evening, likely diminishing overnight. Some evening storms could have up to baseball-size hail and downburst winds.

For Monday through Saturday, severe thunderstorms are likely to develop over the same portions of the state, and large hail, damaging winds and tornadoes will all be possible, according to the NWS.
