3 Lecompton City Council incumbents re-elected

Three incumbents were re-elected Tuesday to two-year terms on the Lecompton City Council.

Councilwomen Susie Hackathorn and Mary Jane Hoffer received 35 votes and Councilman Jimmy Wilkins received 32 in the election. The three incumbents were the only candidates vying for the three seats on the ballot. The top-three candidates receiving the most votes were elected to the five-member council. Thirty-nine people voted in the election, which is a 10.77 percent turnout, according to unofficial results.

Heather Dill, deputy county clerk for elections in Douglas County, said an existing Lecompton home-rule ordinance allowed the city to have the election despite a state law passed in 2015 that moved city elections to November general election dates in nonpresidential years.
