World Company websites win national awards for local news, KU sports coverage

Two websites owned by The World Company have won national awards for their coverage of local news and Kansas University sports.

LJWorld.com and KUsports.com both have won first place honors in the digital media contest sponsored by the Local Media Association.

LJWorld.com won best overall news site for websites that have fewer than 400,000 unique monthly visitors. KUsports.com won first place for the best use of multimedia, editorial content for websites with fewer than 400,000 unique monthly visitors.

News and sports sites from across the country competed for honors in the Local Media Association contest. Judges cited LJWorld.com for “strong local coverage from top to bottom.” KUsports.com was cited as “a site that is built to cater to and satisfy hard-core KU fans, of which there are many.”

A representative of The World Company will be in Denver on Thursday to receive the awards at a ceremony.

In addition, the websites also won the following awards among websites with 400,000 or fewer unique monthly visitors:

• Third Place — Best Community Website, LJWorld.com

• Third Place — Best Layout and Design for desktop and mobile platforms, KUsports.com

• Honorable Mention — Best Contest, Best of Lawrence 2014

• Honorable Mention — Best Blog Initiative for websites of all sizes, KUsports.com
