Lawrence man accused of threatening woman with a golf club, faces felony charges

A 22-year-old Lawrence man, accused of threatening a woman with a golf club and battering a police officer, faces several felony and misdemeanor charges, according to Douglas County District Court records.

Alec J Shanelec was arrested by Lawrence police early Tuesday morning in the 1800 block of Louisiana Street. He is accused of coming into physical contact with a woman, placing her in danger of great bodily harm, threatening her with a golf club, damaging her television set and attempting to prevent her from relaying information to police.

In addition, Shanelec is accused of threatening and battering a Lawrence Police Officer, the records stated.

Shanelec is currently held in the Douglas County Jail on a $20,000 bond on felony charges of aggravated battery, aggravated assault, criminal threats and misdemeanor charges of battery against a law enforcement officer, intimidation of a witness or victim and criminal damage. He is scheduled to appear in court on Monday.
