Sheriff’s office to host Drug Take-Back Day Saturday

The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, alongside the Drug Enforcement Administration, will host National Drug Take-Back Day from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday.

During the event, the public is invited to bring prescription medications to the short-term parking lot between the old County Courthouse, at 1100 Massachusetts St., and the Judicial and Law Enforcement Center at 111 E. 11th St. The medications will be accepted anonymously and without cost for safe disposal, no questions asked, sheriff’s office spokeswoman Sgt. Kristen Dymacek said.

“This drug take-back initiative is designed to help prevent pill abuse, misuse and theft,” Dymacek said in a news release. “Medicines that are left to sit in home cabinets and aren’t used are highly susceptible to misuse and abuse.”
