Kansas City man arrested following pursuit and crash in southwest Lawrence

An early-morning pursuit ended with the suspect vehicle crashing into a roundabout at Clinton Parkway and Lake Pointe Drive.

A Johnson County Sheriff’s Deputy attempted to stop a silver or dark gray Chrysler 300 on westbound Kansas Highway 10 near the county line at 2:50 a.m. The deputy reported speeds in “excess of 100 miles-per-hour.”

The Johnson County Deputy disregarded the pursuit inside Douglas County and reported that he lost sight of the speeding vehicle near the Church Street exit in Eudora.

Lawrence officers spotted the same speeding vehicle on 23rd Street. One of the officers was able to hit the car’s tires with spike strips near 23rd and Alabama.

The driver continued speeding westbound on 23rd Street and continued westbound on Clinton Parkway.

Radio traffic indicated speeds remained around 100 miles-per-hour.

Lawrence officers reported the speeding vehicle crashed into the roundabout at Clinton Parkway and Lake Pointe Drive. The driver was quickly taken into custody after the crash.

Radio traffic from officers stated that the car was heavily damaged and the suspect had a bloody mouth following the crash.

The man refused treatment from Lawrence Medics and was transported to the Douglas County Jail.

Officers reported that the roundabout was damaged in the crash and asked that the city department responsible for the roundabout be notified of the crash.

The Johnson County Sheriff’s Deputy, who first attempted to stop the speeding driver, met the man at the Douglas County Jail to serve him with his Johnson County citations.
