40 years ago: Presidential visit to KU a possibility

From the Lawrence Daily Journal-World for Sept. 8, 1975:

President Gerald Ford was possibly going to visit Kansas University and attend the KU-Missouri football game on Nov. 22, but no plans could be confirmed before Oct. 1, the Journal-World learned today. A White House spokesperson said there had been no announcement of Ford’s travel plans for October or November, but an aide to Kansas Sen. Robert Dole said today the announcement could come as soon as Oct. 1. The president was considering attending a governors’ conference in Wichita in November, but had made no decision on that trip, according to John Crutcher, Dole’s administrative assistant. If Ford traveled to that conference, it was possible he could also attend the Nov. 22 football game in Lawrence. “But it depends on a lot of other things,” said Crutcher. “If the Middle East flares up, he’s not going anywhere.”
