Lawrence firefighters extinguish apartment fire on West 27th Street

Lawrence firefighters extinguished an apartment fire on West 27th Street late Saturday night.

Just after 11 p.m., firefighters were called to an eight-unit apartment building in the 2000 block of West 27th Street on reports of flames coming from a lower-level unit, Fire Chief Mark Bradford said.

Firefighters quickly extinguished the flames, Bradford said, as several residents evacuated the building. Two people suffered minor injuries, he said. One victim was taken to Lawrence Memorial Hospital, and the other was treated at the scene and released.

Fire crews were still investigating early Sunday to determine what caused the fire, Bradford said.
