KU volleyball trips Tech, stretches streak to 16

? Kansas University’s volleyball team remained perfect Wednesday night.

The 10th-ranked Jayhawks swept Texas Tech, 25-21, 25-14, 25-20, at United Supermarkets Arena to raise their record to 16-0 overall and 4-0 in Big 12 play.

Sophomore Kelsie Payne led the Jayhawks with 17 kills on a .483 hitting percentage. Sophomore Ainise Havili totaled 41 assists, and KU had 50 team kills on a .371 hitting percentage. Junior Cassie Wait set the tone defensively with 16 digs.

Texas Tech (12-6, 1-3) led 5-1 and 7-3 in the first set before the Jayhawks took control.

KU’s 16-0 record marks the best start in school history and sets a program record for longest overall winning streak, surpassing the 1991 team’s 15-match winning streak.

The Jayhawks will host Iowa State at 4 p.m. Saturday.
