Letter: Award questioned

To the editor:

The Dole Institute of Politics presented its leadership award to President Clinton. Mr. Clinton was only the second president in our history to be impeached; a DNA sample proved him unfaithful to his wife; he lied directly to the American people about that infidelity; notorious regimes in the Middle East who systematically oppress women regularly “donate” to the Clinton Foundation; and he was disbarred as a lawyer because of perjury.

Mr. Clinton’s history causes me to truly wonder what the criteria are for receiving the leadership award. I know that people who heard him speak said he is “personable” and “can tell a good joke” and can “make you feel like you are the only person in the room.” However, Sen. Dole repeatedly demonstrated great character. It would appear that character is not a qualification for the award
