Style Scout: Logan Gossett

Name: Logan Gossett

Age: 18

Relationship status: Single

Hometown: Derby

Time in Lawrence: About three months

Occupation: Student at KU, and I write for KJHK Radio and the University Daily Kansan.

Dream job: My dream job actually is to be a culture critic/music commentatist, I guess, aka a professional elitist.

What were you doing when scouted? I was about to head to the Mana Bar.

Describe your style: I like palewave aesthetics, so I like lighter colors. I’m a fan of contrast and layering at the same time, so I try to do that, and I find every excuse I can to wear a watch. More than anything it’s in this weird medium between men’s fashion, like a J.Crew lookbook and a more streetwear, loose, relaxed fit.

Fashion trends you love: I love the idea of streetwear brands. That’s really cool. Another fashion trend I’m really liking is, like I said, the palewave aesthetic — pastel palettes; minimalism.

Fashion trends you hate: I’m not a huge fan of everyone wearing just Vans, regardless of what outfit it is; guys wearing sport coats over loose-fitting jeans; people that just rep Nike — just repping a single huge, Triple-A product like that and having big brands plastered all over them.

Fashion influences: Not to sound cliche, but I’m gonna sound cliche — Kanye West is huge because his neutral color palettes are really important. Honestly, certain friends I made through high school both culturally and stylistically influenced me as a person, and when (they) influenced me as a person it influenced the kind of clothing I wear.

What are your favorite and least favorite things about Lawrence? Favorite thing is accessibility to anything you need. Not that I was scarce for basic human necessities in Derby, but it’s just a little bit more civilized here. Least favorite thing initially was navigation but it’s been super easy since then. It’s hard to find a debilitating flaw with Lawrence so far.

Tattoos or piercings: None

What’s your spirit animal? For some reason, I was instinctively going to say a giraffe but I’m not really sure why, but the fact that that came out of me probably means it’s a giraffe. My mom made the assumption it’s a giraffe and decorated my room with giraffe accessories when I came back from a camp one summer, so ever since then I’ve been dogmatically pushed to have a giraffe as a spirit animal, I suppose.

Whom do people say you look like? Just the lowest common denominator of humanity (laughs). I don’t know — for better or worse, my parents. I don’t know; I’m a special snowflake, I guess.

Tell us a secret: A guilty pleasure would be that I sometimes wear fake products. It’ll say it’s Supreme clothing but it’s just “Supreme clothing” in quotation marks with an asterisk, more often than not. Stuff like that just makes me feel special.
