Bird hunter wounded when shotgun accidentally discharges

A 36-year-old Overland Park man was hunting Monday morning when his shotgun accidentally discharged and he was struck in the foot, Sgt. Kristen M. Dymacek, spokeswoman for the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, said.

The man was bird hunting at Eckman’s Hunting Preserve near Baldwin City when the accident occurred. He was taken to Overland Park Regional Medical Center, where he was being treated for nonlife-threatening injuries.

No further information was immediately available, Dymacek said.
