40 years ago: Lawrence teachers at an impasse in contract negotiations

From the Lawrence Daily Journal-World for May 31, 1975:

Local teachers and U.S.D. 497 negotiators had reached a deadlock in contract negotiations this week and were planning to meet again next Tuesday. Neither side had offered to back down from their respective stands on three salary items at the recent session. The teachers had asked for mediation after having reached an impasse, but chief district negotiator Jack Brand said the board opposed outside influence on issues which would affect Lawrence patrons. Teachers wanted more paid positions created for those who supervised extracurricular activities, and wanted a step added to their pay scale.
