Letter: Humane food chain
To the editor:
I have read that Wal-Mart is making some sweeping policy changes regarding its food chain, specifically working with its suppliers nationwide to reduce farmed animal suffering with respect to such practices as intensive confinement, mutilation and inhumane slaughter. Since Lawrence supports two Wal-Marts, I found this to be very heartening news.
As we all mourn the loss of life in the wake of the Pet World fire, let us consider the pain and misery we’ll be sparing millions of animals if we move toward a healthier more humane food chain.
