40 years ago: ‘Brides’ section offers advice for the newly married

From the Lawrence Daily Journal-World for May 25, 1975:

  • A “Brides” section in today’s Journal-World was filled with helpful information for the soon-to-be-married, including an article on how the breakfast routine might change after the wedding. “Now that you’re married, there’s another mouth to feed around the house, and husbands probably want more than mere juice to start the day. Unfortunately, cooking a big breakfast can be a challenge, especially if you’re one of the 60 per cent of all newly married women who hold a job outside the home,” the writer cautioned, before offering some time-saving tips for eating right in the morning while still getting to work on time.
  • Movies showing in Lawrence theaters this week included “Rancho Deluxe” at the Granada, “Tidal Wave” at the Varsity, and a double feature of “White Lightning” and “Mr. Majestyk” at the Sunset Drive-In. The three theaters inside the Hillcrest complex were showing “Breakout” with Charles Bronson, “What’s Up, Doc?” with Barbra Streisand and Ryan O’Neal, and “Sheila Levine is dead and living in New York.”
