Lawrence police plan DUI check lane Friday night

The Lawrence Police Department will conduct a DUI check lane from 10 p.m. Friday until 2 a.m. Saturday at an undisclosed location in Lawrence.

DUI check lanes focus on identifying impaired drivers before they are involved in motor vehicle collisions. Based on accident data from across the state, Kansas sees an average of nearly 150 fatality accidents involving impaired drivers each year, Lawrence Police Sgt. Trent McKinley said in a statement.

The police department encourages drivers, especially students who may be celebrating their accomplishments as the school year wraps up, to act responsibly and designate a driver.
