25 years ago: Lawrence area consumes billions of gallons of water annually

From the Lawrence Daily Journal-World for May 6, 1990:

Area residents and businesses had used more than 3.5 billion gallons of water in 1989, according to Debbie VanSaun, assistant director of utilities. VanSaun said today that Lawrence’s Kaw Water Treatment Plant and Clinton Lake Water Treatment Plant had treated a combined 3,505,917,000 gallons of water during the year, down from the 3.69 billion gallons treated during 1988, which had been a drought year.
