Simmons gets Seahawks tryout

Victor Simmons became the 11th Kansas University player to move on to the professional football ranks as he earned a rookie mini-camp invite with the Seattle Seahawks on Monday afternoon.

Simmons, an Olathe native, saw action at safety, nickelback and buck during his four seasons at KU. As a senior he played in all 12 games, picking up a start against Oklahoma. Simmons ranked fourth on the team in 2014 with 6.5 tackles-for-loss while totaling 32 tackles and two sacks.

As a junior, Simmons played in all 12 games, starting eight at nickelback. He finished the 2013 campaign with 61 tackles.

Three Kansas players — Ben Heeney, JaCorey Shepherd and Dexter McDonald — were taken in the NFL Draft on Saturday. Simmons is the eighth KU player to sign as a free agent.
