Wrestler of the Year

Jon Pratt, Baldwin

The senior 152-pounder set a school single-season record with 48 wins, and he finished his career with Frontier League, regional and state championships. Pratt won five tournament championships throughout the season and led the Bulldogs with 70 takedowns.

Coach of the Year

Kit Harris, Baldwin

The Bulldogs won their first Class 4A state championship after sending a school-record 10 wrestlers to the state tournament, and seven of them finished in the top six of their respective weight classes. State medalists Levi Green, Joel Halford, Jake Katzer, Joel Katzer Thomas Lisher, Jon Pratt and Owen Tuckfield highlighted the year in which BHS won its fourth straight Frontier League title.

First team

Bryan Burnett, Mill Valley — After taking fourth place at the Class 5A state tournament last year, Burnett was the state runner-up at 152 pounds this season. The senior won Kaw Valley League and regional championships, finishing with a 38-4 record.

Alan Clothier, Lawrence — The Lions junior 182-pounder was dominant all season, recording a 42-1 record and improving to 113-6 in his career. He won a regional title and finished third at the Class 6A state tournament, placing in the top three of his weight class for the third straight year.

Ethan Dean, Santa Fe Trail — Dean capped a strong junior campaign by finishing as the Class 4A state runner-up at 220 pounds. He won Pioneer League and regional titles, finishing the season with a 33-6 record and improving to 78-35 in his career,

Dylan Gowin, Mill Valley — The 106-pound sophomore finished as Class 5A state runner-up, helping the Jaguars to third place in the team standings, their best finish in school history. Gowin won a regional championship and finished second in the Kaw Valley League.

Joel Halford, Baldwin — After an injury forced Halford to default to fourth place in the Frontier League, he finished the year on a strong note by getting second place at regionals and third at the Class 4A state tournament. The senior 182-pounder finished with a 28-10 record.

Thomas Lisher, Baldwin — Lisher was a nightmare for opponents all season at 138 pounds, and he became the Bulldogs’ first sophomore state champion. He finished with a 43-4 record, won six tournament championships including the Frontier League and regionals and led his team with 27 falls.

Josh Miller, De Soto — The Wildcats’ 170-pounder, Miller took third place at the Class 4A state tournament after winning Frontier League and regional championships. He won five tournament championships this season, ending with a 43-3 record.

Jon Pratt, Baldwin — Pratt ended his career with 144 wins, fifth on the Bulldogs’ all-time wins list. He was a three-time state placer, four-time Frontier League champion and two-time regional champion. His 1-0 decision to win a state title clinched a state championship for his school in the team standings.

Tate Steele, Free State — A 106-pound freshman, Steele compiled a 36-2 record this year and won Sunflower League and regional titles. The Sunflower League Wrestler of the Year also took third place at the Class 6A state tournament.

Conner Ward, Mill Valley — Ward beat two state champions in different weight classes throughout the season and finished as Class 5A state runner-up at 113 pounds. The Jaguars freshman had a 40-3 record and won Kaw Valley League and regional championships.
