40 years ago: Lawrence gas station owner to donate weekend profits to charity

From the Lawrence Daily Journal-World for March 30, 1975:

Robert Gosvener, operator of the Northside Champion service station, 903 N. Second, announced that he would operate his station for charity this weekend. Gosvener said he would donate all profits from gasoline sales on Saturday to the Lawrence Emergency Service Council. Gosvener, who usually staffed the station by himself, said he planned to have three volunteers help him on Saturday. He had no idea, he said, of how much the profits would be, but he hoped for a good response. “With times as they are, we’ve got to help one another if we can and it’s got to get better,” he said. “The Bible tells us we should help others.”
