Weekend event planned on Haskell campus canceled at last minute

A weekend-long series of events planned by students at Haskell Indian Nations University and reported in Friday’s Journal-World was canceled at the last minute.

Around the time events were to begin Friday evening, The Haskell Indian Leader posted on its Facebook page that the Haskell Resurgence event had been canceled due to unforeseen circumstances.

Haskell Resurgence was not a Haskell University sponsored or organized event but rather a student-led one taking place on the campus.

The cancellation appears to involve discrepancies over planning and the availability of funding to pay performers lined up for the event, according to a memo obtained late Friday by the Journal-World. Efforts may be made to have some of the scheduled musicians return for the annual Haskell Empowerment Summit in mid-April instead.
