‘Rolling disturbance’ with shots fired reported on Iowa Street early Saturday

A Mission man is in the Douglas County Jail after a “rolling disturbance” on Iowa Street early Saturday.

Bryce Dvon Draper, 26, was arrested during a car stop after officers received information he had allegedly fired shots at an occupied vehicle, Lawrence Police Department spokesman Sgt. Trent McKinley said. The other vehicle or structures may have been damaged as a result, McKinley said.

According to police scanner traffic, police responded to reports of a rolling disturbance near Stratford Road about 2 a.m. Officers caught up to a car involved as it crossed under Sixth Street and continued northbound on McDonald Drive toward the turnpike entrance. The suspect car stopped at the turnpike entrance and a male was taken into custody.

The initial caller reported that someone in a silver Chevrolet Malibu with Texas license plates fired four or five shots at a green Dodge Ram.

Just before 3 a.m. officers were heard talking about recovering 9 mm casings on Iowa Street.

Charges listed on the jail booking log are criminal possession of a firearm by a felon, criminal discharge of a firearm, criminal damage to property, cultivation or distribution of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.

McKinley said that as far as he knew the other vehicle involved had not been located. He said he expected to have more information about the event on Monday.
