KU’s Gardner tapped all-Big 12

Kansas University senior Chelsea Gardner has been selected to the all-Big 12 women’s basketball first team.

Guard Lauren Aldridge was named to the all-Big 12 freshman team, and senior guards Asia Boyd and Natalie Knight received all-Big 12 honorable mention.

Gardner averaged a team-leading 16.8 points as well as 8.5 rebounds and 2.4 blocks per game.

Aldridge averaged eight points. She played every minute of KU’s last four games.

Boyd averaged 10.3 points and 4.3 rebounds per game before suffering a foot injury, and Knight averaged 12.5 points.

Gardner also was named the Big 12 player of the week for the second time this season. Gardner totaled 25 points, 12 rebounds and five blocked shots in KU’s victory over Iowa State.

The Jayhawks (15-16 overall, 6-12 Big 12) will meet Kansas State (17-12, 7-11) in the Big 12 tournament at 6 p.m. Friday in Dallas.
