40 years ago: Group applies for federal funding for solar housing project

From the Lawrence Daily Journal-World for March 4, 1975:

A request for $752,000 in federal funds to build a solar-heated housing project in Lawrence was making its way through the federal and state bureaucracy. Applications for the project had been delivered to the Kansas Division of the Budget in Topeka and the Department of Housing and Urban Development in Kansas City, Mo. The Solar Energy Group, the organization behind the project, was comprised of Lawrence citizens, including Charles Kahn, dean of the Kansas University School of Architecture and Urban Design, and William Smith, dean of the KU School of Engineering. Carolyn Crawford, speaking for the group, said the request funds would also pay for stipends for four architecture students who would serve as interns on the project. Preliminary designs had not yet been drawn, and no location for the proposed housing project had yet been found.
