24-year-old woman who was injured in U.S. 40 accident dies

A 24-year-old Topeka woman who was thrown from an SUV last week in a one-vehicle accident on U.S. Highway 40 died from her injuries Saturday, Douglas County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Sgt. Kristen Dymacek said Tuesday.

On June 9, Ebony Boykins was ejected from the vehicle after the westbound SUV she was in veered off the road, rolled several times, went through a barbed wire fence and landed on its side in a pasture.

Shortly after, she was taken by helicopter in critical condition to Kansas University Hospital in Kansas City, Kan., where she remained until her death on Saturday, Dymacek said. She had been in “critical but stable condition” as recently as Thursday.

Marvin Harvey, 24, of Topeka, was also ejected from the vehicle. He was taken by ground ambulance to Stormont Vail Hospital in Topeka with serious injuries. The sheriff’s office originally misidentified Harvey as a 24-year-old Topeka resident named “Marcus Love,” Dymacek said.

Stormont Vail representatives said Tuesday that no one named Marvin Harvey was in the hospital, but a Marcus Love has been in the hospital’s care since the day of the accident. He is listed in fair condition.

Three children under the age of 5, all of Topeka, were also in the vehicle but were not ejected, sheriff’s office spokesman Lt. Steve Lewis said Thursday. They were taken to Stormont Vail as a precaution, but were sent home with family members the same day.

It remains unclear how the five victims were related.

The accident remains under investigation, Dymacek said.
