Percolator hosts event to support monarch butterflies

The Lawrence Percolator, an art and culture organization, will host a discussion on monarch butterflies at 1 p.m. Saturday.

Guest speaker Angie Babbit, the communications coordinator for Monarch Watch educational nonprofit, will discuss monarch population declines that have occurred over the past two years and how anyone can boost the population through planting milkweed, the food source of monarch caterpillars.

The discussion will also include other species that contribute to the monarch habitat, the benefits of planting a habitat and the impacts for humans and monarchs.

The event is in conjunction with the Percolator’s”The Matter of Life” art exhibit, which features ceramic depictions of monarch butterflies, coral reefs and pangolins by biologist Michelle Rogne.

The free event Saturday will be at the Lawrence Percolator, 913 Rhode Island St.
