Lawrence Monday evening fire is ruled accidental
Lawrence-Douglas County Fire Medical officials have determined a fire that displaced a family Monday evening was accidental, according to a media release.
Initial damages to the eastern Lawrence home, at 2517 Maverick Lane, were estimated at $40,000.
Firefighters responded to a report of a fire at the home around at 8:40 p.m. Monday. The family was not home at the time of the fire. Fire department personnel pulled four pets from the home, but one cat died in the fire.
The Douglas County Chapter of the American Red Cross is assisting the displaced family of three adults and three children.
