40 years ago: City commissioners to consider rezoning requests

From the Lawrence Daily Journal-World for June 9, 1975:

  • Items from a recent meeting of the Lawrence-Douglas County Planning Commission, including a rezoning request for a trucking operation on North Iowa Street, were to be included on the agenda for this week’s meeting of the Lawrence City Commission. The rezoning of 6.18 acres from single family to general industrial had been sent back to the planning commission when the city had not agreed with a recommended approval and was now returning to the city with denial recommended by the planning group. Commissioners were also to consider a Use Permitted Upon Review and site plan for Lawrence Presbyterian Manor.
  • Mount Oread was looking well populated again today as classes began for Kansas University’s summer session. Classes were to continue through Aug. 2 with only one break on July 4. Sunflower Girls’ State participants were also meeting on campus this week, and the first batch of Midwestern Music and Art Camp students were arriving to begin their studies.
