Lawrence man, 29, charged with rape of 15-year-old, indecent liberties with 13-year-old

A 29-year-old Lawrence man was charged with one count of rape and one count of aggravated indecent liberties with a child Thursday in connection with alleged sex crimes involving two different juvenile victims.

The man is accused of lewdly fondling or touching a 13-year-old child on April 8 and 9, according to charging documents. He also is accused of raping a 15-year-old without consent from the victim, who was “overcome by force or fear,” between May 25 and June 3.

The crimes, alleged to have occurred at a southeast Lawrence residence, were reported to police just before 10 p.m. Tuesday, according to the Lawrence Police Department’s call log. The man was booked into the Douglas County Jail around 4:20 a.m. Wednesday.

Lawrence police spokesman Sgt. Trent McKinley said Wednesday the alleged victims in the case “are known to the suspect.”

Douglas County Judge Pro Tem James George set the man’s bond at $250,000. The man is scheduled to next appear in court Tuesday. He remained in the Douglas County Jail as of Thursday evening.
