Woman charged in connection with alleged Douglas State Fishing Lake attack and robbery

The Douglas County District Attorney’s Office on Tuesday charged a second person in connection with a June 24 armed robbery and beating of a man at Douglas State Fishing Lake.

Breanna Denise Parsons, 23, of Baldwin City, was charged with aggravated battery and aggravated robbery Tuesday, just over a month after her codefendant, Donnie Ray Michael Plouffe, 23, of Wellsville, was charged with the same counts.

The two are accused of attacking and robbing a man at Douglas State Fishing Lake during the early morning of June 24. The man claimed he’d been “struck several times and had property stolen from him,” Douglas County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Sgt. Kristen Dymacek said.

The allegedly stolen property is listed in court documents as a backpack and its contents. Plouffe is accused of committing the crimes with a gun.

The man suffered “several large lacerations” in the incident and was taken to Lawrence Memorial Hospital for treatment, Dymacek said. Later that day, Plouffe was arrested on suspicion of involvement in the incident. He was charged with aggravated robbery and aggravated battery the following day.

Dymacek said that after investigating further, the sheriff’s office had reason to believe Parsons “also participated with Plouffe in the incident,” and a judge signed a probable cause warrant for her arrest. She was apprehended Monday and booked into the Douglas County Jail on a $25,000 bond.

At Parsons’ first court appearance on the charges Tuesday, Chief Douglas County District Judge Robert Fairchild ordered that if Parsons makes bond she must not ingest any drugs or alcohol. She would also be banned from possessing any firearms.

Both Plouffe, whose bond was set at $50,000 last month, and Parsons remained in the Douglas County Jail as of Tuesday. Parsons is scheduled to next appear in court on Wednesday.

The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office was unable to release Parsons’ booking photo Tuesday.
