Lawrence gunshot victim transported to area hospital

A gunshot victim was transported by helicopter from the Douglas County Fairgrounds to an area hospital Wednesday night, according to Lawrence police.

Just after 8 p.m., police responded to a shooting in the 1900 block of Edgelea Road and found one male victim, Sgt. Craig Shanks said. The man, who suffered serious injuries in the shooting, was transported to the fairgrounds and then taken by Life Star helicopter for treatment at an area hospital, Shanks said.

Police declined to give more specific circumstances of the shooting, citing an ongoing investigation, but Shanks told the Journal-World there were no signs of foul play and police do not believe the public to be in danger.
