Ottawa man, 35, charged with commercial sexual exploitation of a child

A 35-year-old Ottawa man was charged with commercial sexual exploitation of a child Thursday in Douglas County District Court.

The man was booked into the Douglas County Jail on suspicion of the charge just before noon Wednesday, according to the jail’s booking logs. Douglas County sheriff’s deputies arrested him from the Platte County, Mo. jail, the logs said.

According to court documents, the man is accused of offering or giving “anything of value to procure, recruit, induce, solicit or hire” a 17-year-old to engage in a sexual act.

The incident allegedly occurred in August 2014. Court documents did not indicate the town where the crime is alleged to have occurred. The victim has since turned 18 years old.

Douglas County Judge Pro Tem James George set the man’s bond at $45,000. If he posts bail, he is forbidden from contacting the victim, witnesses or anyone under the age of 18.

He is scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday. He remains in the Douglas County Jail.
