National call center expanding to Lawrence, creating 300-plus jobs

A national call center will open a facility in Lawrence’s I70 Business Center, creating 333 new jobs, the company announced Thursday.

USA800‘s new “Contact Center” will occupy 20,000 square feet, and the company will invest more than $3.5 million, according to a news release from the Lawrence chamber of commerce.

USA800 will move into space formerly used by the Rezolve Group, said Brady Pollington, economic development project manager for the Chamber. He said USA800’s capital investment would include improvements to the facility and its equipment.

USA800 expects to begin advertising jobs and to start operations soon, hopefully in the next couple of weeks, Pollington said.

The number of jobs added by USA800 will cover those lost by two exiting call centers, and then some, Pollington said.

Lawrence is losing roughly 200 call center jobs with the recent closing of the Rezolve Group call center at the I70 Business Center and the upcoming closing of the Results Companies call center in the Riverfront Plaza, expected in early August, Pollington said.

The USA800 announcement is a large deal for Lawrence, Pollington said.

“That’s a big number,” he said. “It’s a lot of jobs for any community, especially when you consider that Lawrence is competing with Topeka, even Wichita and the Kansas City metropolitan area.”

The Kansas City Area Development Council partnered with the Chamber and other regional organizations to attract USA800 to this area, according to the Chamber.

“We have experienced call center workers available for hire and we’re pleased with the additional jobs for our local workforce,” Chamber president and CEO Larry McElwain said. “USA800 offers a wide variety of employment opportunities through a range of different schedules, which is an excellent acquisition for the Lawrence economy.”

USA800, which describes itself as the largest employee-owned call center in the nation, said existing customer growth and several large new contracts starting this fall prompted the expansion, according to the Chamber.

“We are excited to make Lawrence our new home and have been impressed by the state-of-the-art facilities offered at the I70 Business Center, as well as the highly skilled and qualified workforce,” USA800 president and CEO Tom Davis said.

USA800 employs more than 1,000 at its contact center facilities in Kansas City, Mo., and St. Joseph, Mo., according to the company’s website. USA800’s various services include sales, customer care and “multi-channel” support such as web chats and email, for industries including catalog, government, health care, insurance, online retail and utilities.
