25 years ago: Construction to close 19th Street for several months

From the Lawrence Daily Journal-World for July 12, 1990:

Work was getting under way on a $750,000 project to improve traffic flow on 19th Street. City officials said 19th from Naismith to Iowa would be closed to through traffic during the project, and utility companies working in conjunction with the road construction would block 19th between Naismith and Massachusetts. “It’s going to be inconvenient, to say the least,” remarked city engineer Terese Gorman. The project called for improvement to 19th Street intersections at Iowa, Ousdahl, Naismith, Louisiana, Tennessee, and Kentucky streets. Plans called for these intersections to be widened, with turning radii improved and some traffic signals installed. Completion of the project was not expected for several months.
