25 years ago: Architectural firms interviewed for depot renovation project

From the Lawrence Daily Journal-World for July 9, 1990:

Interviews with five local architectural firms were to begin in mid-July as progress continued toward renovation of the Union Pacific depot in North Lawrence. The Depot Management Board, which was overseeing fundraising for renovation of the century-old structure, was planning interviews with Gould Evans Architects; John Lee & Associates; Williams Huber Team; Craig Patterson & Associates; and Rockhill & Associates. Each of the five firms had submitted letters of qualification and proposals for the renovation. “All of them presented some interesting materials for us to look at,” said board spokesman Bob Moody. The depot had been designed by renowned architect Henry Van Brunt and had been completed in 1899.
