Lawrence sees 1.86 inches of rain on Friday

Just under two inches of rain fell on Lawrence Friday, said Matt Wolters of the National Weather Service in Topeka.

By late morning the area saw 1.86 inches of rain, he said.

Since June 1, the start of the summer season, Lawrence has had 6.25 inches of rain, Wolters said. Just a quarter of an inch above normal.

Since the beginning of the year, the area has seen 20.53 inches, only .65 inches above normal, Wolters said.

“We had a real dry winter and dry early spring and then the rains came in May and early June and that kind of boosted us back to a normal level and now we’re maintaining.”

With the exception of scattered showers early Sunday morning, Wolters said the rest of the holiday weekend is expected to be dry.
