Douglas County is under a tornado watch until midnight Wednesday, according to the National Weather Service in Topeka. The NWS issued the watch at 6 p.m.

Severe thunderstorms were expected to develop in a line east of Emporia to Topeka, including Lawrence, as the evening progressed. Large hail and damaging winds, as well as one or two tornadoes, are possible, the NWS said.
