Name: Devin Shaffer

Age: 23

Hometown: Sabetha

Time in Lawrence: Visiting for the weekend on holiday

Relationship status: Single

Occupation: I am studying interior architecture.

Dream job: To design and reintroduce historic architecture into modern churches and modern structures

What were you doing when scouted? Waiting for my mom. I got her a chai latte from Henry’s.

Describe your style: It’s postmodern in the sense that it’s a mix of styles, both new and old. But, honestly, it’s just eclectic. I go to secondhand stores like Goodwill and Plato’s Closet and pull it all together.

Fashion trends you love: In my design work, I love to contrast styles from different eras such as adding a modern flare to a 17th century design style. I tend to use that approach to my fashion choices as well — for example, a more refined athletic look mixed with a rugged and rustic style.

Fashion trends you hate: Neon colors are killing me.

Fashion influences: They range from Louis Vuitton to Topman or Asos. I like looking at what they are coming out with and their latest styles. I also check out mugshots and street styles from the 19th century.

What would you like to see more or less of in Lawrence? More secondhand clothing stores with mannequins showcasing eclectic outfits so that people can see what you can do with secondhand clothing. Less of? I’m content with the city. I’m a visitor and have yet to find anything needing improvement or change.

Whom do people say you look like? Everybody says I look like I’m in a band. I can’t think of any names in particular. Someone just told me a well-dressed European man, possibly a Texan in for the night or Allen Stone.

What type of music do you like? Basically all kinds… Bill Withers one day, Kanye the next.

Tell us a secret: I have this inner desire to pack up and become a Franciscan monk.
