KU music ensembles, symphony to perform shared concert at Lied Center

Kansas University’s Wind Ensemble, Jazz Ensemble I and Symphony Orchestra will share the stage Saturday for a special concert at the Lied Center of Kansas, 1600 Stewart Drive.

The evening will begin at 7:30 p.m., with the Symphony Orchestra performing excerpts from “The Planets” by Gustav Holst.

The Jazz Ensemble I program will include “Kopi Luwak” by Alan Ferber and “Over the Rainbow” by Fischer and Lane, arranged by Alan Baylock, featuring Steve Leisring on the trumpet. The group will also perform “Harlequin Tears” by Toshiki Akiyoshi.

KU’s Wind Ensemble will wrap up the concert with a performance of the “Star Wars Trilogy” by John Williams, arranged by Donald Hunsberger and Stephen Bulla.
