25 years ago: Residents await airing of locally-filmed TV movie

From the Lawrence Daily Journal-World for Jan. 26, 1990:

The made-for-TV film Michael Landon film “Where Pigeons Go to Die,” filmed the previous fall in Baldwin, Lawrence, and Overland Park, was scheduled to air in three days, and many local residents were looking forward to seeing it. “I plan to watch it, and my son’s going to tape it for me,” said Sam Hill, one of 10 senior citizens from Baldwin who had a part in the filming done at the Baldwin Grain Store. Fifth graders at Baldwin Elementary were still remembering an entire day spent the previous fall with Landon, preparing for the filming of their scene. Ten-year-old Luke Taylor recalled being given a lunch pail, some books, and a completely new set of clothes to fit the 1940s era depicted in the film. “I’m going to have a friend spend the night,” Luke said about his plans “We’re going to tape it, too.” Jerry Jones, coordinator of the Kansas Film Commission, said the Landon production had brought about $1 million to the Kansas cooperation.
